Recently, the Research and Engineering Demonstration Project for Four-Million-Tonne Full-Flue Gas CCUS Key Technologies of 600-Megawatt Coal-Fired Unit in Golden Triangle Energy Region (Inner Mongolia and Ningxia Hui autonomous regions, Shaanxi Province) and the 100,000 Tonnes Per Year of CO? Saline Aquifer Geological Storage Pilot Test of Jinjie Company received official approval from the Development, Reform, and Technology Bureau of Shenmu City.
The four-million-tonne CCUS demonstration project, one of CHN Energy’s top ten sci-tech projects for 2024, has also been approved as a project in energy-conservation and carbon-reduction sector under the 2024 national “Two Major Areas” (national major strategic implementation and key areas of security capacity building) and included in the “Top 100 Projects” of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). Based on the abundant resource and industry foundation, geological carbon sink potential, and operation cost advantages of the Golden Triangle Energy Region, the project will establish a CCUS demonstration project equipped with a 600-megawatt coal-fired unit and a four-million-tonne “full-flue gas machine capture, end-to-end carbon sequestration” system with a total investment of RMB 1.99 billion. Upon completion, it will achieve a minimum annual CO? capture volume of four million tonnes, with full utilization across multiple pathways, including geological storage, mineralization and fixation, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and utilization, and low-carbon applications.
