On February 1, China’s first domestically-developed GTC-80 phased-array defect detection car was tested in Xujiawan Station along the railway route connecting Datong in north China’s Shanxi Province with Jungar Banner in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This marks the official operation of the defect detection car by Xinshuo Railway Corporation.

The GTC-80 phased-array defect detection car is tested in Xujiawan Station.

The GTC-80 phased-array defect detection car adopts state-of-art defect detection device and a microprocessor-based system to automatically detect, analyze, display, record and print the type, location, extent and changes of rail defects. Intelligent detection devices capable of precisely measuring track, abrasion and rail cant are installed on the car. Its smart system enables information sharing and comprehensive use, providing technical support for rail maintenance.

Its high-speed automated defect detection system is capable of speedy, 24-hour operation, drastically reducing manpower input, easing safety management pressure and improving operation safety. Employing hydrodynamic drive, the system has a maximum detection speed of 80KM/h, which solved problems of slow detection and inefficiency in rail defect detection facing Xinshuo Railway Company. The system also meets heavy load standards for 60kg/m and 75kg/m track. Compared with current operation model, the new defect detection car boasts intelligent defect detection, real-time warning and simplified display, reducing manpower by more than 50 percent and saving an annual operation cost of more than 6 million yuan. In this way, the new car system improves productivity, lowers the cost and eases labor intensity.。

After put into use, the car system can also serve other rail operators of China Energy and peers across the country. It is of great significance to improving the equipment standard of China’s heavy-load railway industry.
