Upon the order of Wang Xiangxi, Chairman of China Energy, Train 18001, a 10,000-ton heavy-haul train, departed the Huanghua South Railway Station of the Shuozhou-Huanghua Railway under China Energy, on December 26, 2020. This marked that the entire Huanghua-Dajiawa Railway, a new passage for energy transportation in areas around the Bohai Sea, began operation. Liu Guoyue, President of China Energy, addressed the opening ceremony. Attendees also included Lu Chunfang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Bai Xiaochun, chief safety supervisor of the National Railway Administration, and relevant leaders of Hebei and Shandong provinces.

Before the opening ceremony, Wang Xiangxi and Liu Guoyue visited the control room of the Huanghua South Railway Station to inspect the station’s transportation organization and management and the trial operation of China Energy’s new railway scheduling system. Wang spoke highly of the various achievements made by the Shuohuang Railway and the Huanghua South Railway Station. He stressed that the railway should uphold the idea of safe operation, put life and safety first, eradicate the risk of accidents from the source, and continue maintaining its good records in production safety. He also called for deepening scientific understanding of the development trends of the railway transportation market, strengthening the integrated advantages of China Energy’s railway network, and accelerating the shift in transport structure from “roadways to railways.” Moreover, Wang noted that the railway needs to vigorously push forward research of key technologies, promote high-quality development of heavy-haul railways through technological innovation, and give full play to the important role of the transport sector in realizing the targets to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality as green, low-carbon development has become a practical strategy of China Energy. He also stressed that China Energy should make meticulous plans for 2021 and the 14th Five-Year Plan Period (2021-2025) and seek to build an enterprise with global competitiveness.

Liu Guoyue congratulated the opening of the Huanghua-Dajiawa Railway and expressed thanks to relevant government departments and all contractors for their contributions to the project. He pointed out that despite many difficulties including the COVID-19 epidemic, all participators worked hard with one heart to complete the project as scheduled. He required the railway to seek high-quality development with eyes on maximizing benefits and achieving integrated operation through promoting reforms and innovation, expanding the market and increasing service quality, so as to build an eco-friendly, high-tech and high-efficiency modern heavy-haul freight network to boost regional economic development.

The 216.8-kilometer Huanghua-Dajiawa Railway starts from the Huanghua South Railway Station and pass through several cities in Hebei and Shandong before reaching Dajiawa Station, with a total of 10 stations. As a national Class-I single-track electric heavy-haul railway, it has set a near-term cargo transportation objective of 31.97 million tons per year and a long-term cargo transportation objective of 47.52 million tons per year. The Huanghua-Dajiawa Railway is a project in China’s Mid to Long term Railway Network Plan as well as an integral part of the railway passage in the region around the Bohai Bay. After its completion, it would form the second largest rail artery network with a total length of 880 kilometers for the West-to-East Coal Transportation project, together with the Shuozhou-Huanghua Railway and the Huanghua-Wanjia Railway, so as to directly connect Hebei, Shandong and Tianjin with China Energy’s energy bases in middle and western regions and construct a new reverse transport passage to ensure safe, stable energy supply for areas around the Bohai Sea.

Senior executives and representatives from relevant departments and subsidiaries of China Energy attended the opening ceremony.
