Recently, the project Research and Application of a High-Precision Personnel Positioning System for Elevated Thermal Power Units, submitted by China Shenhua’s Jinjie Company, was selected as a typical case and paper in the 2026 Power Safety and Emergency Technology Innovation program organized by the China Electronics Enterprises Association.
This call for cases aimed to implement the core requirement of ensuring high-level safety for the development of new power systems, advance the modernization of power safety governance and capacity, and reinforce power safety defenses through innovative technologies. The Company’s project stood out from 409 submissions and was selected.
To address the challenges of traditional safety management in thermal power plants, including low efficiency, high personnel complexity, and inadequate safety oversight, the project established a personnel positioning system. It devised a ultra-wideband (UWB) base station layout, enabling real-time tracking of staff movements, generating electronic geofences, and alerting or denying access to personnel approaching dangerous zones. In emergencies, the system allows for rapid personnel location and notification, thereby enhancing overall operational safety.
