Technicians at the information center of Huanghua Port recently successfully tested 5G camera on a towboat, marking a major step forward in the application of 5G telecommunication technology in the port.
When a towboat operates on the sea, traditional optical fiber router cannot be used, and 4G and other telecommunication means cannot meet the requirement of fast broadband and low latency. As a result, operation footage cannot be transmitted back in real time. To solve the problem, technicians in the port actively explored the application of 5G telecommunication technology in transmitting footage of towboat operation. They used integrated cameras with 5G modules and a dedicated 5G network to transmit footage to the port’s video management platform. Thanks to 5G’s ultra-fast broadband and low latency capacities, footage of towboat operation can be sent back in real time. The application provides valuable experience for using 5G telecommunication technology in a wider range and also effective support for building a smart port.
