Shendong Coal’s New Conveyor Saves 70% Installation Cost

On May 10, the new-type 52301 telescopic conveyor in Yujialiang Mine, Shendong Coal, passed acceptance tests, with all parameters within a reasonable range, and was put into official operation. The installation cost of the conveyor is over 70 percent lower than that of traditional conveyors, and the installation efficiency is substantially improved. While saving production cost, the new device provides reliable conveying solution for safe production.

The new device is supported with solutions powered by cutting-edge technologies including high-power permanent-magnetic electric machine, oil cylinder, protective system and wireless data transmission. The conveyor control system is the latest product by Huaning Company. An independent PLC module is added to the main control system, making it possible to realize automatic online optimization. The frequency-converting control unit adopts the power supply circuit solution provided by Huaxia Tianxin, with the total power exceeding 1,500 kilowatts. The new conveyor is anchored with 10 oil cylinders, which replaced previously used ground anchors numbering over 100. The pressure of each oil cylinder amounts to 22 Mpa. The data for pressure detection and automatic control can be transmitted in a wireless manner. The framework of the device is based on a link mechanism, and can be easily folded and stretched. The installation time is shortened by close to 40 percent.

It was the third time the new device was installed for trial operation in the company. This time, the company made targeted improvement and optimization based on the previous test runs. First, the drive system was simplified by connecting the head roll directly with a high-power permanent-magnetic electric machine. The machine adopts a water-cooling system, making it possible for maintenance-free during the trial run. Second, the head part adopts a hydraulic link mechanism. In the past, equipment was first transported to the installation location and then connected manually, which was time and labor-consuming. In contrast, the new hydraulic link mechanism can be unfolded like a transformer, fast and safe.

The hallmark of the device is the replacement of ground anchors with hydraulic pillars. For traditional conveyors, the headpiece should be anchored on the ground, which took around two months. In the installation, a two-meter-deep pit should be dug first, and then filled with concrete. The foundation alone could cost more than 3 million yuan. After the conveyor finishes its service, the ground anchor should be removed. The hydraulic pillars save these costs, labor, and installation and remove procedures.

After the new device is put into use, the foundation work alone will save more than 2 million yuan in installation cost. The installation will take around nine days, one week shorter. The charges for the installation will be several hundred thousand yuan lower. Simplified equipment also requires less maintenance work, and the operation also goes automatic and unattended. Compared to eight workers in the past, the operation team now only needs four members. The total funding saved is estimated to be at least 3 million yuan.
