On October 8, the Hongshaquan No. 2 Open-Pit Coal Mine of China Shenhua’s Xinjiang Energy, passed verification and acceptance inspection by the Emergency Management Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and obtained a Work Safety License. This marks the mine’s transition from infrastructure construction to compliant production, qualifies it for large-scale production and operation, and provides strong support for releasing 10-million-tonne high-quality production capacity and safeguarding regional energy supply.

Located on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang and in the southeastern part of the Junggar Basin, the Hongshaquan No. 2 Open-Pit Coal Mine has geological resource reserves of 5.613 billion tonnes and recoverable coal reserves of 1.024 billion tonnes in the first mining area, with an approved production capacity of 10 million tonnes per year. The minable coal type is non-caking coal, an excellent thermal coal and a high-quality feedstock coal for liquefaction and gasification.

Since construction began in December 2023, Xinjiang Energy has followed the construction requirements of “high starting-point planning, high-standard buliding and high-quality delivery”, coordinating project construction, safety management, and the processing of formalities to ensure the project advances in a lawful, compliant, safe, and efficient manner. The successful acquisition of the Work Safety License marks a key milestone in the mine’s transition from infrastructure construction to production and is of great significance for releasing high-quality production capacity and enhancing regional energy supply assurance.
