The 2026 Indonesia Environmental and Social Innovation Award ceremony was recently held in Bali. CHN Energy’s Java Power Plant won three top honors, the Emission Reduction Project Award, the Biodiversity Award, and the Social Innovation Award, for its outstanding practices in environmental protection, social responsibility, and sustainable development. It became the first million-kilowatt-level coal-fired power plant to win all three awards since the program’s inception. These awards are strong recognition of the plant’s long-standing commitment to green development and active fulfillment of corporate social responsibility, further highlight its achievements in environmental and social innovation.
Hosted by PT SUCOFINDO, an Indonesian state-owned enterprise, the Indonesia Environmental and Social Innovation Award is an important platform for exchange and recognition in corporate environmental and social innovation. It aims to encourage enterprises to keep advancing environmental protection, social responsibility, and sustainable development, contributing to a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable society.
Over the years, embracing the concept of sustainable development, CHN Energy’s Java Power Plant has integrated environmental protection and social responsibility into its production and operations, improved its environmental management system, and explored distinctive models of environmental protection and community development. It has carried out a series of fruitful initiatives in ecological conservation, pollution control, resource utilization, and community empowerment. In ecological and environmental protection, the Plant has advanced mangrove restoration, river rehabilitation, and biodiversity conservation. It has planted 42,000 mangrove trees and cleared the Terat River in Indonesia, steadily improving the surrounding ecological environment and enhancing regional ecosystem stability. In fulfilling its social responsibilities, the plant has responded to the actual needs of local communities by continuing to implement the “Annie’s Wish” scholarship program and the “Village of Hope” community empowerment project. Focusing on three core areas: local infrastructure development, educational and medical assistance, and economic empowerment, it has strengthened communication and engagement with local governments, community residents, and relevant stakeholders, promoting shared development between the plant and local communities through targeted and sustainable assistance projects.
