Recently, freight train No. 55004, composed of 38 multi-function pocket wagons, carrying 988 tonnes of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) , departed from China Shenhua’s Railway Equipment Baotou Logistics Park, marking the official operation of the park.
This logistics park is a comprehensive facility self-funded, constructed, and operated by Railway Equipment. In response to the national “road-to-rail” initiative and to meet the growing railway logistics demands of surrounding industrial parks and large enterprises, while also providing stable traffic volume support for trunk railways such as the Baotou-Shenmu Line and enhancing rail transport efficiency, the park has been planned and developed as a non-coal freight base and a specialized logistics service platform. Strategically located at Wanshuiquan South Station in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, the park serves as a key regional logistics hub connecting the northwest China, north China, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It links to over ten railway mainlines, including the Baotou-Lanzhou, Beijing-Baotou, and Baotou-Shenmu lines, enabling comprehensive freight services such as wagon-load transport, container transport, pocket-wagon transport, and road-rail intermodal operations. Within the regional energy distribution network, the park can function as a transshipment hub and as a corridor for coal from Inner Mongolia to southern markets. At the same time, it is precisely tailored to local industrial needs, with dedicated storage and transport channels for chemical products, offering integrated services for warehousing, transshipment, and collection and distribution of various chemicals.
To ensure smooth operations during the first train run, Railway Equipment coordinated with relevant entities to meticulously plan and organize, formulate transport and operational plans, and conduct technical validation to ensure orderly execution. The park has systematically optimized its operational workflows, introducing an on-site direct container loading model that eliminates inefficient steps such as secondary handling and back-and-forth transfers found in conventional transport. While strictly fulfilling workplace safety responsibilities and upholding the safety standards of railway transport, the park has significantly reduced cargo transit times and substantially improved transport organization efficiency. By adopting proven road-rail intermodal models seamlessly connecting railway trunk lines with short-haul road transport, and leveraging the full-journey “one bill, one container” service advantage, the park effectively resolves persistent industry challenges including complex procedures, high cargo damage rates, and increased logistics costs.
The opening of the Railway Equipment Baotou Logistics Park is expected to deepen collaborative synergies between relevant entities within CHN Energy and China Railway, optimizing the full-chain services spanning coal transshipment, chemical transport, and multimodal operations and providing strong support for establishing a well-functioning, highly efficient, and convenient regional comprehensive logistics hub that benefits both railway operators and clients.
