The Ecological Demonstration Zone of the Coal Port Area in Huanghua Port, Hebei Province, was successfully selected as a national “Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Are Invaluable Assets” practice and innovation base at the 2025 Ecological Civilization Forum, becoming the first port enterprise in China to receive this honor.
Located on the saline-alkali wasteland of the Bohai Bay, Huanghua Port once faced severe environmental challenges due to its fragile ecological condition. Huanghua Port Authority firmly implemented the concept of “Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets”. It took regional coordination and systematic governance as the starting point, continuously improved environmental quality and ecological restoration, blazing a new path of ecological priority and green development. It built an ecological water circulation system, which intelligently collects, stores and purifies ballast water, rainwater and coal wastewater, turning the former wasteland into the attractive Harbor Garden. Its independently developed full-process dust suppression technology achieved a 98% dust emission reduction rate. The supporting Coal Dust Recovery and Treatment Workshop processes collected coal dust into “coal briquette” for external sales, creating a cumulative economic benefit of 88.83 million yuan over the past five years and achieving a win-win situation of environmental and economic benefits. It built China’s first “Zero-Carbon Terminal” demonstration project, took the lead in realizing full coverage of shore power, and constructed a distributed photovoltaic power generation system. Combined with frequency conversion drive and full-process intelligent technology, the proportion of green power consumption in the port area reached 100%, setting a new benchmark for the low-carbon transformation of the port industry. Adhering to the development concept of integrating industry with ecology, it organically combined core industrial facilities including modern silo clusters and intelligent central control centers with wetlands and picking gardens transformed from saline-alkali land, successfully establishing China’s first AAA-level industrial tourism scenic spot among coal ports.
The successful selection marks that Huanghua Port Authority achieved major breakthroughs in its green and low-carbon transition. It provided replicable and scalable practical paths for the green development of the port industry. From a “saline-alkali wasteland” to a Harbor Garden, Huanghua Port Authority will continue to broaden the channels for transforming ecological advantages into economic benefits. Through the in-depth integration of ecological protection and high-quality development, it will contribute more wisdom and port-specific solutions to the practice and innovation of the Two Mountains concept.
