On November 28, Baotou Chemical received an official document from CHN Energy, List of the First Batch of Central SOE Projects for the Application and Expansion of Sci-tech Achievements, jointly issued by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT), and the National Energy Administration (NEA). Million-tonne Coal-to-Olefins Full-process Domestic Production Line, submitted by Baotou Chemical, was the only project from CHN Energy to enter into the list, marking a national recognition of Baotou Chemical’s Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project for its contribution to sci-tech innovation and industrial demonstration.
The Baotou Chemical’s Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project builds upon the world’s first coal-to-olefins demonstration facility operated by CHN Energy, which has been included in the Modern Coal Chemical Industry Innovation Development Layout Plan under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the MIIT. Based on the Phase I plant, the project innovatively upgraded and systematically applied self-developed sci-tech achievements, increasing methanol production capacity from 1.8 million tonnes per year to 3.8 million tonnes per year and polyolefin production capacity from 600,000 tonnes per year to 1.35 million tonnes per year. Key facilities include: a 2×105,000 standard cubic meters per hour air separation unit, a 550,000 standard cubic meters per hour pulverized coal gasification unit (effective gas) with purification and desulfurization systems, a 2 million tonnes per year methanol unit, a 750,000 tonnes per year methanol-to-olefins and olefins separation unit, a 400,000 tonnes per year polyethylene unit, a 350,000 tonnes per year polypropylene unit, and supporting public projects and auxiliary facilities. To break the long-standing foreign monopoly on related technologies and equipment and construct more independent and manageable industrial chains, the project will demonstrate full-process patented technologies developed independently, achieving over 98% of equipment manufactured domestically. Additionally, the project integrates renewable energy in its design to achieve deep coupling of coal chemical, green electricity, green hydrogen, and green oxygen, thus leading the modern coal chemical industry toward high-end, diversified, and low-carbon development.
Baotou Chemical will further refine its project implementation strategy, strengthen collaboration with various innovation entities, and promote technological upgrades and process innovation. By fostering the aggregation of upstream and downstream resources across the industrial chain, the Company aims to accelerate the application of technological achievements into real productivity, thus contributing to achieving full domestic production and independent controllability for the coal-to-olefins industry, boosting new quality productive forces, and implementing the national energy security strategy.
