The research and development (R&D) of smart portable survey meter for beam joints of bridges by Baoshen Railway won the gold award of the 46th International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) on November 26. The R&D program was conducted by a quality control (QC) team named “Explorer” of the Shenshuo Railway under Baoshen Railway.
The “Explorer” QC team followed the Plan-Do-Check-Action closed-loop management principle in carrying out the program. After field survey, testing and experiment as well as improvements and upgrades, the team developed the smart portable survey meter for beam joints of bridges in 10 months. The use of the survey meter will shorten the measurement of each abutment from 998 seconds to 198 seconds, much lower than the benchmark of 300 seconds.
The R&D and application of the smart portable survey meter substantially improve the efficiency and quality of bridge and tunnel inspection. It provides accurate data for the maintenance of bridges and tunnels, ensures stable and safe operation of railway and fills the global void of accurate survey meter for beam joints of bridges.
First held in 1976, the ICQCC is the largest international platform for showcasing QC achievements. It has been reputed as the “Olympics” in QC field.
