On May 29, the second phase of the eco-friendly farming demonstration base in the coal mining subsidence area of Shendong Coal Bu’ertai Mine officially commenced construction, aiming to enhance the ecological and economic benefits of comprehensive management in the coal mining subsidence areas in an all-round way.
Located in Barituta Village, Wulanmulun Town, Yijinhuoluo Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the project covers an area of approximately 470.9 mu, including 52 solar greenhouses, 1 seedling greenhouse, 2 multi-span intelligent greenhouses, and an intelligent control center, with facilities for preservation and testing, and integrated water-fertilizer equipment.
Currently, Shendong Coal has over 30,000 employees and more than 50 canteens, with an annual vegetable demand of approximately 3,600 tonnes. To ensure employees have access to safe and reliable vegetables and to improve their quality of life, the company plans to utilize the land of its mines to develop a series of eco-friendly agricultural projects within the mining area during the 14th Five-Year Plan period as per the requirements of mine geological environment governance and that for the use of restoration funds. The projects will focus on daily consumed vegetables such as green peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh kidney beans, cherry tomatoes, oilseed rapes, endives, and green long hot peppers. Upon completion, the projects will provide healthy vegetables for employees while also creating an eco-friendly, nature-oriented, beautiful, and low-carbon agricultural production demonstration base with high-standard facilities.
