The rail switch upgrading project in Fugu Station was finished on August 20, marking the completion of the capacity expansion of the station on Baoshen Railway to 300 million tons.
The Shenmu-Shuozhou Railway operated by Baoshen Railway is a trunk line of China Energy Group. Fugu Station handles close to 200 trains daily. However, the original rail switches could not support such heavy transportation, making switch upgrading an urgent task.
Starting in early July this year, some hundred construction workers began to upgrade the switches. To ensure smooth construction, Baoshen Railway made a meticulous plan and set up a dedicated technical team, which finished rounds of site surveys for a construction plan. The plan was then optimized by specialists. Construction workers were assigned with specific tasks, and full preparations were made with safety protection measures in place. During the construction, participating units worked in tandem in accordance with the construction plan, and methodically finished procedures including moving ballasts, loosening fastenings, cutting rails, placing sliding rails, moving the rail line and re-positioning ballasts. After 50 days, the switch upgrading project was finished, removing potential safety hazards and providing high-quality equipment support for transportation safety.
The Fugu Station renovation project was a challenging one for the construction team ever since its establishment. Facing difficulties including tight schedule, challenging task, narrow construction site and complicated procedures, the construction team removed 11 sets of switches, placed nine new sets, dismantled 376 meters of rail and laid 496 meters of new tracks within the required timeline.
