Recently, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China under the Ministry of Science and Technology released a list of academic papers included in the 2020 Frontrunner 5000 Top Articles in Outstanding S&T Journals of China (F5000). The paper Study on Water Resources Protection and Utilization in Coal Mining in China by authors from the State Key Laboratory of Water Resource Protection and Utilization in Coal Mining under China Shenhua was included in the list. The authors are Gu Dazhao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the State Key Laboratory, Dr. Zhang Yong, and Dr. Cao Zhiguo.
The paper is the second one included in F5000 following Theoretical Framework and Technological System of Groundwater Reservoirs of Coal Mines. It offers a systematic analysis of technologies for water resources protection and unitization and the characteristics of related engineering projects in coal mining in west China. The paper represents the team’s exploration in technology and engineering in the past 20 years. It puts forth an idea of storing mine water in mine goafs, and establishes a technological system for groundwater reservoirs of coal mines, which covers water source predication, reservoir location selection, reservoir capacity calculation, dam building, safety control and water quality control. The paper also briefs about the construction of the groundwater reservoir in Shendong Coalfield, and points out that the technology is illuminating for other mines’ efforts in water resources protection and utilization in west China.
Supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and organized by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, a leading research institute in scientific and technical information, the F5000 aims to boost China’s scientific and technological journals and showcase outstanding academic papers written by Chinese authors. No more than 20 academic papers published over the last five years in each top journal are shortlisted for the F5000. The winning papers should be the top 1 percent mostly cited ones representing original scientific research or technological innovation in a particular discipline, and reflect the highest academic level in a particular discipline.
